✅ VERIFIED BY AMALA | Last Tested: 09-09-2026 | Independent Guide — Not affiliated with PayMyDoctor.com

The Practice ID is the most confusing part of PayMyDoctor — here’s exactly what it is, where to find it on your billing statement, and what to do if it’s missing.

⚡ Quick Answer:
  • What it is: A unique number identifying your healthcare provider in PayMyDoctor
  • Also called: Client ID, Provider ID, Practice User ID, Bill Pay ID
  • Where to find it: On your medical billing statement — near the provider name
  • Format: Usually 4–7 digits (numbers only)
  • Who has it: Same for every patient at that practice — it identifies the practice, not you

What Is a Practice ID in PayMyDoctor?

A Practice ID (sometimes called Client ID, Provider ID, Practice User ID, or Bill Pay ID, depending on your billing statement) is a unique number that Veradigm gives to your healthcare provider. This could be the doctor’s office, hospital, or clinic that sent you the bill.

Think of it as a postal code for your payment. PayMyDoctor works with thousands of medical practices across the US. Without the Practice ID, the system cannot tell which practice’s billing records to use when you try to log in or pay.

In simple terms:

  • Practice ID: this number identifies your healthcare provider.
  • Account Number: this number identifies you as the patient.

These are two different numbers, and each serves a different purpose. Mixing them up is the most common reason for PayMyDoctor login problems.

Why Does PayMyDoctor Require a Practice ID?

After a recent Veradigm system update, you now need a Practice ID Number to access the portal. This update helps keep your information secure and makes sure payments go to the right provider.

Before, some patients could use the portal without a Practice ID, but that has changed. Now, you must enter the Practice ID for every login and guest payment.

Where to Find Your Practice ID — All Possible Locations

You can find your Practice ID on your billing statement from your healthcare provider. Its location may vary depending on how your provider organises their statements.

Statement LocationLabel Used
Top of statement — near provider name and address“Practice ID”
Near provider letterhead or logo“Client ID”
In the “How to Pay” instructions section“Practice User ID”
Next to the payment portal URL“Bill Pay ID”
Embedded in the payment link URL from your billing emailNumber after /paymydoctor/ in the URL

What it looks like:

  • Format: Only numbers, usually 4 to 7 digits long
  • Not: A long number with letters or dashes. That is probably your Account Number or reference number.
  • Same for all patients: Every patient at a practice shares the same Practice ID.

The most common reason PayMyDoctor logins fail is entering your Account Number in the Practice ID field, or vice versa.

Step-by-Step: How to Find Your Practice ID

On a paper billing statement:

  1. Check the top part of the statement and find the section with your provider’s name, address, and contact details.
  2. Look for a short number, usually 4 to 7 digits, labelled “Practice ID,” “Client ID,” or “Provider ID.”
  3. This number is usually in a small box or set apart from longer numbers.

In a billing email:

  1. Find the payment link in the email. It is usually a button or a URL.
  2. Check the format of the URL. It often includes the Practice ID directly in the link:
Example: personpay.com/paymydoctor/**12345**/. The bold number is your Practice ID.

On an electronic statement:

  1. Open your PDF or digital statement.
  2. Use the search function (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) to look for “Practice ID,” “Client ID,” or “Provider”.
  3. The number shown next to that label is your Practice ID.

Can’t Find Your Practice ID? Do These Steps

Step 1: Look for all labeled numbers on your statement

Look through each part of your statement for numbers labelled “ID,” “Code,” or “Number” near where your provider’s information appears.

Step 2: Check the payment URL in your billing email

If you got an email from your provider with a payment link, the Practice ID is often shown in the URL path.

Step 3: Call your provider’s billing office

This is usually the quickest and most reliable way. Call the billing phone number listed on your statement and ask, “What is your Practice ID for PayMyDoctor?” They will know this right away since it is their own number.

Step 4: Try the Guest Pay alternative entry

Some providers let you use Guest Pay with your Account Number, date of birth, and ZIP code, so you do not need the Practice ID. Try the Guest Pay option to see if your provider’s portal allows this.

Common Practice ID Problems — Fixed

“The Practice ID I entered isn’t working”

  • Enter just the numbers. Leave out any letters, spaces, or dashes.
  • Make sure you are not entering your Account Number in the Practice ID box.
  • Be sure you are using your latest billing statement. Sometimes Practice IDs change if your provider updates their system.
  • If you are unsure, call your provider’s billing office to confirm the correct Practice ID.

“My statement doesn’t show a Practice ID anywhere”

  • Check for other labels like Client ID, Provider ID, or Bill Pay ID.
  • Check the payment link URL in any billing emails.
  • If you still cannot find it, call the billing office. Sometimes the statement does not show the label, but the number is there.

“My Practice ID worked before but now shows an error”

Sometimes practices update their Veradigm system, which can change the Practice ID. Call the billing office to confirm the current number.

“PayMyDoctor says Practice ID is invalid even though I’m entering it correctly”

Check that you are on www.paymydoctor.com and not a fake website. Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser. If it still does not work, contact your provider’s billing office. They can help you make a payment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Practice ID the same as the Account Number?

No, these are two completely different numbers. The Practice ID is used to identify your healthcare provider, while the Account Number is used to identify you as a patient. Make sure not to use one instead of the other.

Can I find my Practice ID online without my billing statement?

You can trust your billing statement and your provider’s billing office for accurate information. The Practice ID is not listed publicly because it is unique to your provider’s Veradigm account.

Does the Practice ID change?

Practice IDs usually stay the same, but they might change if your provider updates their Veradigm system. If your Practice ID is not working, contact the billing office to check the current one.

Is the Practice ID sensitive information?

This information isn’t personally sensitive because it is the same for every patient and identifies the practice, not you. Still, you should keep your full login details (email, password, and Practice ID) private.

What if my provider doesn’t use PayMyDoctor?

If your provider does not use Veradigm’s billing system, they will not have a PayMyDoctor Practice ID. Please reach out to your provider to learn which payment portal they use.
